Label & Catalogue Number:
N/A

Origin:
German

Release Date:
1987

Format:
Single, picture disc LP

Source:
Recorded live at Donauinsel Festival, Austria 12.9.86

Sound Quality:
Average at best. Flat, tinny, some distortion. 'Fishing' slightly fades out at the end of the first side

Notes:
This is actually a misspress of a Velvet Underground bootleg LP. The original LP was issued by Death Records in Germany, 1987 (we are unsure when this picture disc was re-issued). For some bizarre reason it features a PiL recording from Austria 1986. Especially strange given that the PiL gig has never received a bootleg LP release. The source is confirmed by Lydon making reference to "the banks of the river Danube" during 'Low Life'.

Packaging:
Picture disc. Velvet Underground graphics, and track listings. Correct PiL track listing above.

Personnel:
Vox - John Lydon
Guitar - John McGeoch
Bass - Allan Dias
Keyboards - Lu Edmonds
Drums - Bruce Smith

Reviews:
PiL play well enough, but with festivals come arseholes… It's hard to look back on this gig objectively as it's the infamous show where John McGeoch was hit in the face by a two litre bottle of wine. He required 40 stitches and the remainder of the European tour was cancelled. This recording (thankfully) doesn't feature the incident, therefore it is not complete. There are obviously some crowd problems with "dirty little bastards" spitting etc, but nothing seems that out of the ordinary. Which is probably a sad reflection of the times more than anything. Obviously things must come to a head later in the set.

If you're gonna hunt this bootleg down, you will obviously be a hardcore fan, so I suppose sound quality or the actual gig will come second. Given that it is an outdoor festival the sound quality was never going to be that great anyway…
